Road Trip - Summer 2015: Shoshone Falls

We planned to stay at Craters of the Moon the second night, which isn't very far from Farewell Bend in road trip miles. It's certainly not a full day trip. So along the way, we swung down to Idaho Falls to see Shoshone Falls Park.

The GPS originally led us to a residential area, which was beautiful. They had their own country club down in this valley. But there wasn't any public destination, so we had to turn around and go back up to the top.

The real Shoshone Falls Park was very pretty. It didn't look like Idaho at all! :)

We stopped and had sandwiches for lunch here. We were really sick of sandwiches by the end of the trip. (Yes, Cody is wearing his wizard hat from Halloween in this picture and many other pictures. I think he enjoys the bubble of personal space it creates when he's in crowds.)

For more cute squirrel pictures, see Autumn's Facebook page. She took a bunch of this little guy.

In this photo you see Autumn and Sean searching for a mysterious animal we saw running across the rocks. It looked like a ferret from far away, but I think we eventually decided it was a marmot.

After lunch, we took a peek at the falls. It was really beautiful, but super hot. You couldn't see much from the sanctuaries of shade, so we didn't stay here very long. I think we spent more time in the Idaho Falls stores looking for supplies for the trip than at the falls.

There was a trail that led to a higher viewpoint, but it was closed due to damage on the bridge. And the dam was in a stage of repair so the water was at a fraction of its potential flow. Still, very pretty.

Sean got a black eye on the Fourth of July and he was very self-conscious of it at first. It is pretty much healed now, and you can see it's progression in the series of photos we took on this trip. I keep joking that we should create a collage of photos of his eye.

Me and Autumn.
