Road Trip - Summer 2015: Goodbye, Yellowstone!

I was hoping to capture our trip in fewer posts, but here is the last one. (Sorry for the delay. I have been busy this week.)

On Monday, July 13, we drove north looking for bighorn sheep. We did not see any. Neither did we spot any wolves, coyotes, or black bears in the park, but we weren't really expecting to be that lucky. We did see elk, deer, and antelope on Monday.

We saw Mammoth Hot Springs and then headed east to Tower-Roosevelt. We could have gone all the way to the Northeast gate, but we were getting sick of the car at that point, and Ben and Sean were the only ones who voiced positive opinions about driving to the gate just to say we had been to all of them.

We were satisfied at this point that we had seen "all of the park" (which is pretty much impossible, but we were close enough in the category tourists who didn't get out of the car very often). We voted to leave Yellowstone one day earlier than originally planned, and spend the extra day in Craters of the Moon (see post of that name).

So that was pretty much it. We went back to camp, did some laundry, hung out, and then packed up the next morning and headed to Craters.

My girls at Mammoth Hot Springs

In Mammoth Hot Springs, dozens of elk are just wandering around town, grazing off the trees lining the sidewalks, and dozing in the town square beside the picnic tables. It's really funny! They seem completely unconcerned that anybody will give them trouble.

We took a drive down Blacktail Plateau Drive and had lunch. It was gorgeous!

Autumn reading Animal Farm to Michayla in the hammock. They ended up falling asleep and spending the night in it.

Sean and Shea digging a moat to protect their tent. It sprinkled off and on some of the days, but we didn't ever get rain again like we did the first day in this site. The moat wasn't needed, but it kept them entertained.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our trip! It was lots of fun!

Fitbit on Monday was 5,547 steps. We hardly got out of the car, and it was still a better fitness day than going to the office! Wow!
