Remember back when Cody was a freshman and he was nominated by his teacher for a special award? Well, it happened again.
This time he was nominated by his German teacher, Frau MacGregor. This is what she wrote on his award:
"Cody has a mind like a steel trap. I can always count on him to not only know the current and previous vocabulary and grammar we cover in class, but to also help other students who have questions. He always finds a way to create funny situations with German, and makes the speaking/writing activities interesting. His grades are consistently the highest in the class and it is because of his hard work and dedication both in and out of school. I look forward to having him in 3rd year German next year!"
I've never seen Cody study in the traditional way with flashcards or with repetitive writing of vocabulary. However, he does like to read and speak German. He got a couple of German dictionaries for Christmas and he got a German Book of Mormon and a German Harry Potter for his birthday.
Every night in our family scripture study, we take turns reading verses from the Book of Mormon. Cody always reads his verses in German. Then he tells us the translation (and we help him if he needs it). It's been a really fun experience for all of us. I have already memorized how to say Lord, behold, and And it came to pass in German!
Another milestone for Cody in the last month or so is that he got his learner's permit. He has been out to practice only a few times (my heart can only handle so much stress), but he really enjoys it. I hope someday soon he'll learn to stay on his side of the street and actually stop at stop signs! :)
