Look, Dad! Two hands!
So he's not doing tricks yet. Shea asked me to take this video to show his daddy that he finally learned to ride his bike.
This is the bike he got for Christmas two years ago--the bike that prompted him to say to me on Christmas morning that Santa was "dumb" because the bike was "too big." He had determined this without even trying to get on it. (Spoiled little... eh-hm)
This is the bike that we tried to find training wheels for, but none of them fit. And since it didn't have training wheels, Shea wasn't going to touch it with a ten-foot pole.
We begged and bribed, but he preferred to ride on Sean's pegs or just run along side of Sean's bike. Really? You'd rather be splashed in the face with muddy water while running behind your brother than to ride your own bike and maybe fall down a couple of times while getting the hang of it? Fine. Whatever.
So the bike sat and sat in the backyard until... Shea joined Cub Scouts! And the first meeting involved seeing a real fire truck, and the second meeting was going to the dump to see where the garbage goes, and the third meeting was a den bike ride...! A bike ride? Oh no! But Shea doesn't know how to ride his bike. And all his friends will stare at him and wonder why. Darn.
So that very afternoon, while all of the other cub scouts were earning their Bike Riding belt loop, Shea was practicing in the front yard at home. It only took him about 20 minutes to be riding completely on his own.
"Take a video for Dad!" He was so proud of himself!
