Cody didn't really want anything for his birthday, and he refused to give me a list to work from. So on his actual birthday he didn't get anything from me. I felt guilty about this as the days wore on, but I finally thought of an idea. When I told Cody my idea, he was really excited! And it only cost $3.00!
Since Cody is currently obsessed with all things German but especially the language, and he is also looking forward to serving a mission for the Church, I decided to get him a Book of Mormon in German.
I ordered it about a week ago, and today it came. I handed him the box and said, "Happy Birthday!" He opened it immediately and started laughing. "I think it's in Japanese," he said. He is such a prankster, I didn't believe him at first. We all leaned over his shoulder and gawked at the book, everyone taking a guess at what language it was. Eventually, I got online and Googled it. Yep, it's in Japanese!
We decided to keep it and offer it to Uncle Tim, who is obsessed with all things Japanese. I ordered another Book of Mormon in German and hopefully it will actually be in German this time.
Shea was flipping through the pages of the Japanese version and was surprised to learn it is meant to be opened on the opposite side. Then he turned to a page that appears to be an index or maybe a table of contents. Some of the characters were Kanji, but most of them were numbers. Shea exclaimed loudly, "Hey! Half of this page is real!"
