Sean also marched in his first parade! The annual Children's Cultural Parade was May 29 at Fort Vancouver. Sean played bass clarinet, and unlike the other two students playing bass clarinet, he didn't wear a neck strap. At the end of the half-mile route, he thought it was funny that his thumb had deep pink impressions from balancing his instrument on one hand. I told him it probably wouldn't be very funny in the Rose Parade (a longer route), and he might consider wearing a strap next year!
Waiting around for the parade to start.
Warming up near Fort Vancouver. It was uncharacteristically gorgeous weather.
Marching down East Evergreen Blvd
I took a video clip of the band marching down the street, but something happened to the file and it won't play. Oh, well. Just imagine about 60 hot and thirsty middle school students walking out of step in a haphazard formation and playing "Grand Old Flag" the best their two years of classroom instruction could prepare them for. Actually, most of the video captured only the cadence anyway. It was a fun half-day away from the office for me.
